WELCOME TO THEOVERSITY

Theosophy is the search and enquiry to discover and experience Divine Knowledge or Divine Wisdom. The term comes from the Greek words Theo meaning God or Divinity and Sophia meaning wisdom. Wisdom cannot be enclosed within words, it is a Truth which must be discovered and experienced by each individual for themselves.

Theoversity was established in 2006 to promote and expand knowledge about theosophy. Its core aim was to provide an area where the theory and practice of the perennial philosophy could be studied in more depth and with a mix of both serious academic and experiential approaches. Theoversity will also provide conferences, retreats and visits to places of interest. It also aims to investigate the main areas of human knowledge and achievement as seen from a theosophical perspective, including comparative religion and spirituality, esoteric science and philosophy and the sacred arts.

Theoversity is part of the Foundation for Theosophical Studies. Theoversity works closely with other organisations, groups and individuals who have similar aims and aspirations. Those who have beliefs or no beliefs are equally welcome. No one will be refused entry because of inability to pay listed prices.

In 2009 a new working group was appointed to re-launch this project and initiate the programme for the coming year. The programme will revolve around four main weekend courses but will also include other related activities such as visits, workshops and retreats. Each weekend will be organised by experienced Course Facilitators and include well known experts in their field.

The Foundation was founded by the Theosophical Society in England and is committed to a search for truth in all things, mutual understanding and freedom of thought.

The Objects of the Foundation are:
To advance and promote education, study and research into religion, philosophy and science and to disseminate the results to the public.

To promote study and research into the laws of nature and the powers latent in man and advances the fundamental unity of all people through knowledge of theosophical principles of unity, evolution and perfectibility.

The Foundation for Theosophical Studies supports a large number of activities and subjects in the fields of religion, philosophy, science and theosophical principles, ranging from historical and contemporary teachings to explorations at the forefront of modern knowledge and discovery. The headquarters library, worldwide literature, publications and research provides evidence to support this work. Where there is demand, additional formal and informal study groups and courses are arranged in specific subject areas.

The Foundation arranges and sponsors a wide range of events, including a rolling programme of activities at its London Headquarters and a National Speakers Scheme operates nationwide providing speakers and course leaders for local events around the country. There are other Regional events and the Theoversity programme as described on this website.

The Annual Summer School is a residential week held at different regional venues. It provides a varied programme of lectures, study groups, seminars, courses and workshop allowing attendees the opportunity of exploring different subjects and also to deepen their knowledge in their chosen area of study.

Tapes and CDs are produced from the talks and courses at Headquarters, the Summer School, Theoversity and Regional Events. Study material is produced and information made available by post, via the Internet and website.
